The holy cow!!

Cows were not even a topic of discussion a few years ago. But now cows are taking the centre stage on discussions ranging from ecology, economy, culture to healthcare. Why is it that Indians see the cow with such reverence when most of the world sees them as a source of food? Why is it that organisations like Dakshin Vrindavan have come up to take care of abandoned cows? What constitutes their success? Why cows now?
